How ANC (active noise cancelling) works
Active Noise Control (ANC), Active Noise Cancelling, and Active Noise Reduction (ANR) are methods where an unwanted sound is reduced by adding another sound specifically made to cancel it out. Our active noise cancelling earbuds use a microphone to sample the sound, and a speaker to create a phase-shifted sound that cancels the original sound.
The performance of QuietOn 3 Active Noise Cancelling earbuds compared to that of conventional foam earplugs is visualized in the graph below. No silence created, but optimal environment for sleeping.
The graph depicts the snoring noise amplitude in the frequency scale – a sound that occurs throughout the sound spectrum, but especially in the range between 200-800Hz. Furthermore, it is illustrated how well passive and active noise cancelling reduce the noise mountain.
Passive noise cancelling devices such as foam earplugs perform well for frequencies over 1kHz, however they are not working effectively in the range where you would need them most: Low frequency noise waves, which are long and go through the walls and earplugs.
The solution for those is active noise cancelling – The graph demonstrates how well the low frequency noise is reduced with QuietOn 3. Yet, ANC does have limitations and no ANC device works well over 2kHz frequencies. It is just the law of physics processing and audio components have delays.
That’s why QuietOn’s unique approach of combining ANC and passive noise reduction gives the best possible results when you can not sleep because of sleep disturbance.
Here you can learn more about the performance tests our earbuds go through, to ensure that we offer nothing but technological excellence to you.
QuietOn 3 is designed for the ear anatomy
For a normal sized adult’s outer ear, the shell of the earbud typically fits inside the concha, between the crus of helix and the antitragus. Because of this position and the slimness of the earbud, side sleepers don’t feel the pressure.
Another important feature is how the shape of QuietOn 3 Active Noise Cancelling earbuds is designed to reach the ear canal without stretching the tragus.
The width of the ear canal varies from person to person. Given that QuietOn 3 comes with four different sizes of foam tips, it is ensured that the device fits best into different sized ear canals, ensuring the best possible help when you can not sleep.
ANC in tiny technology
- Microphone takes a sample from the outside noise.
- The tiny active electronics inside the earbud creates a phase-shifted and equalized sound.
- The phase-shifted sound is then played through a speaker thus cancelling the original noise.
- The energy for the device is provided by re-chargeable battery.
- The soft memory foam tip ensures a tight fit in the ear and handles the passive noise cancelling.
With our three generations of earbuds for sleeping, QuietOn is proud to be the smallest active noise cancelling device on the market today.
Silence the snoring
QuietOn provides optimal noise reduction across the whole audible spectrum. They are most effective at low frequencies such as snoring or ambient sounds coming through walls. With QuietOn 3’s ANC, the point is not to force your body to quit snoring. Instead, it provides another way around the problem and people are finding it to be useful when they can not sleep.
Sleep in quietude surrounded by city and neighborhood noise
The feeling when you can not sleep because of noise disturbances, such as traffic noise or music coming through walls is hardly bearable. QuietOn 3 Active Noise Cancelling earbuds block these frequencies effectively, can help with insomnia and provide you the soothing and relaxing quietude you need for a good night of sleep and feel refreshed the next morning, despite the high noise level in urban areas.
How to use QuietOn 3 Active Noise Cancelling earbuds?
This video shows how the device is used in order to get the best possible performance and noise cancelling experience. QuietOn 3 earbuds are easy to use and with no wireless setup or connectivity required, and automatic charging in the included case, QuietOn 3 earbuds are always ready to pop in and provide more restful sleep and are a help for insomnia caused by noise.
The smallest earbuds for sleeping
The picture says it all! QuietOn 3 is around 3 times smaller than Apple Airpods Pro™, a product which could more or less could be perceived as the “industry standard”, when it comes to the size of consumer market wireless earbuds.
Active Noise Cancelling vs. Noise Masking
There are also a couple of Noise-Masking devices on the market, for example Bose Sleepbuds 2™. They do partly mask some part of the noise, but unless a very loud masking level is used, you still can hear both the masking noise (i.e., rainfall) and the snoring from your partner.
With QuietOn 3’s Active Noise Cancelling technology no additional sounds are present, and all that is left is a soothing soundscape for you to sleep in.
The wireless, free from connectivity QuietOn 3 is equipped with foam tips (XS, S, M, L), USB-C cable and last but not least, the charger case. Fully charged case provides energy for the earbuds for a week.
The earbuds’ lithium-ion batteries last around 28 hours on single charge, giving 3 full night sleep without worrying about the battery.
